Svalinn Group Is a New Partner

Our solutions have been continuously developed since the company’s founding in 1946, and we consider both our experience and our proprietary solutions to be unique,” says Marius Teige, Group CMO at Svalinn Group.

Svalinn Group's Ambition is to become the preferred contractor for the food industry in Scandinavia. “We strive to be the best before, during, and after the construction process. Through thorough preparation, efficient execution, and solid delivery, we ensure that our customers achieve durable results that create long-term value,” says Teige.

The company’s vision, “Best before, during, and after,” represents their commitment to delivering high quality throughout the entire process. “We focus on protecting our customers' raw materials, maintaining strong relationships, and ensuring that our deliveries are robust, durable, and create value,” explains Teige.

“Our values — honesty, modernity, competence, commitment, and unity — are the foundation of everything we do. These values are reflected in our behavior, beliefs, and dedication to delivering superior room and building solutions,” describes Teige.

Svalinn Group aims to be a reliable partner that realizes their customers’ construction projects within the food industry.

What Are Your Key Focus Areas for Sustainability?

“At Svalinn, we aim to promote sustainable practices in the construction industry. We recognize that our industry significantly impacts energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, and we are working to reduce energy use and ensure our rooms and buildings are efficient throughout their operational lifespan,” explains Teige.

By constructing high-quality rooms and buildings with long lifespans, the company focuses on making their solutions energy-efficient with high insulation capacity. This helps minimize energy loss and maintain the desired temperature and quality for food storage. Freezing and refrigeration warehouses are specially designed to ensure optimal storage and reduce the risk of heat loss.

Combining solar panels, reuse of surplus heat, high wall and roof insulation, effective airlock solutions, and attention to door and gate usage provides significant operational savings and environmental benefits. “Our customers are generally focused on choosing environmentally friendly and future-oriented solutions. This places demands on us and drives our continuous development,” says Teige.

“In addition to the construction process itself, we have implemented sustainable practices in our daily work. We have begun replacing our vehicle fleet with electric cars and are working toward adapting to fossil-free and emission-free construction sites. We focus heavily on waste management and sorting to minimize negative environmental impact, symbolized by our membership in Grønt Punkt Norge. Our goal is to continuously improve our environmentally friendly initiatives and become even better at thinking and acting in line with sustainable principles,” concludes Teige.

Terravera in the Equation

“Svalinn can benefit from the platform Terravera has developed to gain insights into sustainable practices, new technology, and industry best practices. We are also interested in the objective benchmarking tools, which will help us evaluate our sustainability initiatives, compare them with industry best practices, and identify areas for improvement,” says Teige.

“We look forward to using Terravera’s network to find common solutions to sustainability challenges and to access various resources associated with the foundation,” he explains.

A Call to the Industry

Svalinn Group encourages other players in the construction industry to collaborate to find common solutions for sustainability. This includes:

  • Sharing best practices and experiences to create a culture of knowledge sharing and learning.

  • Joint research and development to accelerate the development of sustainable technologies and materials.

  • Collaboration on resource efficiency and the implementation of waste management solutions.

  • Advocating for policies and regulations that support sustainable practices in the construction industry.

“Through such collaboration, the construction industry can become more sustainable and responsible, considering both environmental and social aspects. We want to contribute to positive change and encourage other players to be part of this collective effort,” says Teige.

Key Benefits of Terravera

Teige highlights Terravera’s technological platform, which provides access to information on sustainable choices and solutions. He also emphasizes the collaboration between business and academia, which bridges the gap between theory and practice. Mapping value chains, transparency, openness, and cross-sectoral engagement are factors that Svalinn believes will positively impact the industry.

First Steps

“We are looking forward to an initial assessment meeting where we can get advice on how to best position ourselves for sustainability. This will help us become aware of what we are already doing well and where we have the greatest potential for growth,” says Teige.

“We envision receiving assistance in making sound decisions and adjustments, as well as defining where in our operations we should focus to achieve environmental benefits in both the short and long term. It is also important for us to help our customers make good choices, and we see potential for support in documenting which solutions have the lowest environmental impact over time,” he adds.

“By becoming more sustainable, we can help preserve the environment while also achieving benefits such as cost savings, competitiveness, and strengthening our reputation,” concludes Teige.
