The Terravera Approach – A Commitment to Making a Difference

With a background in Industrial Economics and Technology Management – Energy and Environment, Jørgen was driven by a clear motivation to join Terravera:

"What inspired me to apply to Terravera was their mission to enable more precise and sustainable practices across various companies. Working with real and impactful cases is incredibly rewarding for someone passionate about the environment and eager to make a difference."

Jørgen also emphasizes the significant responsibility he was given from day one as a key driver of his motivation. Structured and goal-oriented work is essential for success, a skill he has honed through his work at Terravera.

Collaboration for Sustainability – A Partnership with Fremtind

Jørgen is currently engaged in an exciting collaboration with Fremtind, where they are examining emissions from various repair processes.

"Our collaboration begins with the company identifying a key challenge they want to explore. Through dialogue and joint problem-solving with the modeling team, we develop a shared approach. The goal is often to establish overarching figures related to a sustainability scenario and its value chain."

Jørgen particularly values working with diverse stakeholders, including both private companies and public institutions. He sees this as a unique opportunity to learn from others and gain insights into how sustainability is assessed across different industries.

A Methodical, Analytical, and Data-Driven Approach

When tackling a new challenge, Jørgen always starts with a thorough analysis.

"I take the time to fully understand what needs to be figured out. Investing an extra two hours in clarifying the problem often saves ten hours of incorrect work later."

To ensure precision and efficiency, he utilizes a range of digital tools in his modeling work:

  • Literature search: AI tool Consensus and Google Scholar

  • Value chain analysis: Draw.io

  • Data collection and modeling: Excel and ChatGPT

To guarantee high-quality models, he always double-checks his calculations in Excel first.

"There are very few calculations I haven’t tested in Excel first to understand what the model should yield."

Digital Structuring for the Future

To ensure that models and data can be expanded upon, Jørgen structures all his work in a way that is intuitive and easily accessible.

"I aim to structure my work as effectively as possible in Excel, with a logical layout and clear data labels. I also annotate my data points so others can understand and use them in the future."

Sustainability as a Competitive Advantage

For Jørgen, the most rewarding aspect of his job is seeing tangible results from his work.

"I have the opportunity to drive the green transition forward and work with sustainability as something that delivers real value—not just as a passing trend."

At the same time, he acknowledges that one of the biggest challenges is access to concrete data with strong research backing. Close collaboration with partners and the team is crucial in addressing this.

"Often, it’s just a matter of looking at things from a slightly different angle than what initially seemed correct."

The Future of Modeling and Sustainability

At Terravera, we see data-driven modeling as a key enabler in the transition to a more sustainable world. Through close collaboration with companies, innovative work methods, and cutting-edge technology, modelers like Jørgen Brones Stenersen help develop concrete, measurable solutions that drive the industry forward.

For us, sustainability isn’t just about understanding—it’s about taking action.
