Reitan Eiendom wants to have facts on the table
- There can be a lot of savings to be made by choosing the right building materials and suppliers, in terms of both costs and the CO2 footprint of our business. But we don't know if there are big or small differences. That's exactly why we prioritize data, to get the facts on the table before we make decisions. That's what Jostein Breines, Director of Sustainability and Innovation at Reitan Eiendom, says.
They want a good foundation for innovative choices
Reitan Eiendom, one of Norway's largest real estate companies, has a vision to be the most value-driven real estate company. With eternity as a perspective, they aim to develop and own sustainable portfolios of commercial properties in the city centers of Oslo, Bergen, and Trondheim, as well as logistics, industrial, and retail properties across Scandinavia.
“Terravera appears to us as an attractive partner,” says Breines. “There is significant potential for knowledge and data sharing between companies and industries, as well as combining various data sources. Reitan Eiendom aims to be data-driven in everything we do. For instance, we use our method for sustainable property development and management, where the first of four steps is to map facts and data. Here, we can use Terravera as one of several tools,” says Breines.
He also points out that the approach of modeling data seems interesting. “Digital modeling can provide us with data from many sources. If it helps us discover things we didn’t know before, then it’s perfect,” he adds.
The Total Footprint
Like many other companies, Reitan Eiendom is in the early stages of examining CO₂ emissions across different parts of their value chains.
“The supplier industry is on it, and we notice that. We want to focus on material choices and their impact on the CO₂ footprint of buildings. Selecting the right suppliers will be crucial for the sustainability impact of our projects,” says Breines.
Innovation and Data Flow
The company is actively working on data flows and data quality.
“We have positive and proactive people who make well-founded decisions every day. Smart and forward-thinking use of data will make it easier to access the basis for these decisions. This way, we use our expertise to evaluate and analyze data, rather than collect it.”
Breines also highlights a sense of optimism in the industry regarding the development of new solutions. He points out that more and more players are forward-thinking. The individual will of companies to improve plays an important role.
“The key is to reduce the element of randomness when making decisions. There’s no reason not to prioritize facts and data. We believe we can significantly reduce CO₂ emissions by choosing the right materials from the right suppliers. But we don’t know for sure. Maybe it’s just an assumption. We seek to confirm whether our assumptions are correct, so we know if we’re on the right track,” concludes Breines.
Terravera thanks Reitan Eiendom for their trust and looks forward to an exciting collaboration.
