Easee was founded in 2018 by three entrepreneurs with a vision of shaping the future power grid. Since its inception, the company has established operations in eight countries and sells to a total of 23, with Sweden, Germany, the Benelux, and the UK as significant focus areas.

Exports in 2022 reached 80%, making Easee one of the world’s fastest-growing companies within green technology. Easee creates smart power technology and has taken the market by storm with one of the world’s smartest EV chargers. All products are developed, designed, and produced in Norway. Alongside its vision of shaping tomorrow’s power grid, Easee places substantial emphasis on people and culture as its greatest asset.

“We’re a growing tech company aiming to create the power grid of the future. Our solutions help with load balancing and electrification. Additionally, we have a strong focus on culture and want to shape the corporate culture of tomorrow,” says Rigmor Haga, Sustainability Director at Easee.

What challenges do you see in the industry from a sustainability perspective?
“We see both challenges and opportunities. The technology we develop at Easee contributes to the green transition by balancing loads and facilitating electrification. At the same time, the technology required for this transition relies on minerals, materials, and energy-intensive processes to produce. At Easee, we aim to maximize the potential of our technology while minimizing the footprint involved in producing, installing, and using it.”

What specifically would you like to explore together with Terravera?
“This time, we’d like to focus on the installation process of the chargers themselves. We want to assess whether, and to what extent, our approach of connecting multiple chargers on the same circuit can be more environmentally friendly,” says Haga.
“We hypothesize that this method involves less material and resource usage while still offering the flexibility needed to optimize and balance the power grid, compared to more traditional chargers and installation methods,” Haga explains.

What is the value of sustainability insights for you, from a business perspective?
“Easee’s technology is meant to contribute to a green and fair transition. Sustainability is therefore a natural aspect of our strategy and vision. In a world that’s already warmed by one degree globally, we want to be part of the solution. That means integrating sustainability throughout the company.”

How can the industry collaborate to become more sustainable?
“Sustainability isn’t a solo race. We need to collaborate to succeed. The industry should challenge one another on sustainability, report openly and transparently, and share best practices. For example, Easee is a member of The Responsible Business Alliance, where we work with other tech companies to move in the same direction and develop good practices together.”

How does knowledge of sustainable solutions help prepare you for the future?
“By taking a fact-based approach to sustainability, we can more easily make genuine sustainability choices and prioritize those areas where we can have the greatest impact on people and the environment,” Haga concludes.
