Driving Sustainable Consumer Choices Through Data and Insight
How can lifecycle analysis uncover the hidden environmental costs of textile production to empower more sustainable consumer choices?
Our Approach
Partnering with Fauna, supported by the Norwegian Research Council, we developed a comprehensive lifecycle analysis to compare the environmental footprint of various natural and synthetic materials.
This analysis provided a detailed framework that highlights the differences between natural fibers and synthetic textiles. It also addressed overlooked issues like the significant microplastic pollution caused by washing polyester-based fabrics—an alarming contributor to global ocean pollution.
Impact
For Consumers: Fauna app users now access clear, science-backed insights to make greener material choices, empowering them to opt for textiles with reduced microplastic emissions and a lower carbon footprint.
For Businesses: The model supports textile producers and retailers in optimizing their material supply chains, reducing their climate impact, and adopting sustainable practices.
For Sustainability: Fauna’s gamified approach, combined with robust data, encourages user engagement, rewarding sustainable actions and driving lasting behavioral change.
Key Results
Highlighted the environmental trade-offs between textiles, showing how material choice impacts microplastic emissions and overall climate footprint.
Enabled informed decisions for both individual consumers and large-scale producers, fostering transparency and accountability in the supply chain.
Why It Matters
This collaboration represents a new era of data-driven sustainability. By demystifying environmental impacts, we’ve equipped Fauna with tools to create a global movement for conscious consumption—where every purchase shifts the needle toward a greener future.
Looking Ahead
As the project grows, we’re extending this approach to other industries, starting with food. Together with Fauna, we aim to create a seamless, inspiring way for consumers to take sustainable actions—making impactful choices not just easier, but second nature.
